| Bitter End |
| by Joanne Sinchuk |

Reading Christine Kling’s books is like having a love affair with Florida.
She doesn’t write about the wackiness of Miami, or the manly adventures on the high seas, or the desecration of the Everglades. She just writes good stories about interesting people, who happen to make their living (and their loving) on and around the many bodies of water in South Florida.
Seychelle Sullivan is the captain and owner of a tug and salvage company in Ft Lauderdale Harbor. She makes her living saving boats that run aground, run out of gas, or rescuing tourists who just get lost. Cruising up the New River to start a job, she rescues a boat gone aground and finds her friend’s ex-husband on board, shot dead. Since the friend is then accused of the murder, Seychelle gets involved finding the real killer.
Kling not only spins a delightful and interesting story, but gives the location a major role in it. I can’t imagine any of these stories happening anywhere else but in South Florida.
And Kling knows from where she writes. She has spent over 20 years working in and around boats, and personally traveled around the world by boat several times. Getting her MFA from Florida International University, she studied under James W. Hall and Les Standiford. She not only knows boats, but is probably the most qualified person to write about them and the people who live and work on them.
Recommended to anyone who loves a well plotted, atmospheric, Florida adventure. Third in the series. Ballantine 2005 First Ed First Printing, Signed. $24.95
