Tim Dorsey writes about Florida in all its decadence, corruption, dysfunction, cupidity, stupidity, and bizarro violence. But Dorsey still loves the pure Florida that hasn’t been completely paved over – and he eloquently communicates his abiding passion for its beauty and history.

| The Big Bamboo |
| by Joanne Sinchuk |
| |
Serge takes on Hollywood! The mystery world’s most loveable serial killer leaves his beloved Florida to take on the big Hollywood Producers. And Serge wants answers.
Remember when all the nuts were in Florida? The fugitive thing, chads, Elian, people sleeping with alligators? Then California comes along and elects the terminator as governor, and puts a bunch of weirdoes on trial. Serge feels they stole our weirdness crown, and he intends to get it back.
So Serge and Coleman set out for Hollywood. At the same time, two guys working in a pretzel store, who happened to have written a script, set out for Hollywood to sell their script. They both meet up with duo studio heads Ian and Mel Glick. Is there a theme of twos running through this story?
As usual, if there is such a thing as usual with his books, Tim Dorsey excels in his wacky characters. He tells his story and takes swipes at Hollywood through the eyes of retirees in wheelchairs who scam jewelry stores, photographers who make their living by getting Alec Baldwin to punch them for the out-of-court money, lawyers who negotiate the rights to scripts produced on Mars, and best of all, Serge’s grandfather Sergio. And the ultimate spoof of publishing, the last “A Note on the Type”.
Dorsey has done it again. |
